President Aquino of the Philippines shut the door on an impending divorce law, which has been filed in Congress.
He went even as far as accusing Congressmen who filed the divorce bill as wanting to “widen the gap between our administration and the Catholic Church”. The gap mentioned being the opposing sides taken by the Aquino administration and the Catholic Church on the reproductive health bill, also in Congress.
Aquino says that “[t]he sanctity of families is very important to us” and that his administration is busy with other measures.
The reproductive health bill, which he supports, seeks to widen access to contraceptives. The Church deems the bill as also an attack to the sanctity of families.
