INDIA: Abandoning The Tradition Of Living Together As One Extended Family

The current housing conditions in New Delhi are indicative of a significant change in family life and the growing independence of the country’s middle class.  More young professionals are giving up the tradition

of one extended family living under the same roof.  They are moving away from their hometowns to live and work in India’s booming cities.  A survey showed that only ten per cent of the capital’s population now live in extended ‘joint families.’
