Who can understand what poverty is, but the poor themselves. That is the goal of the upcoming National Poverty Summit being organized by the National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace or NASSA
The Summit is being called due to prevalent apathy toward the plight of the poor in the country. With “lopsided “priorities” in the Philippine national budget, it is seen that very few poor people will benefit from any projects to be implemented.
Organizers hope to determine the real causes of poverty; and to decide “which way to take” to address these causes.
NASSA is the social action arm of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, and will be working on the Summit with government agencies on agriculture, agrarian reform, health, labor education and social welfare.
