PHILIPPINES: An ‘ALL STARS’ Kind of Life for the Pinoy Youth

The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I have come that they may have life, life in all its fullness.” – John 10:10

ALL STARS – that is the theme of the CFC Youth for Family and Life (YFL) Youthfest 2012 held last November 11, 2012.  With thousands of youth in attendance, consisting of both members and non-members of YFL, the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig was packed with young Catholics, eager to know more about the Lord.

Jesus shining on and through the youth

For every member of YFL, the Youthfest always has been an annual event to look forward to. What makes this year’s Youthfest so unique from the ones before it was the series of production numbers for the sessions.  It was what made this year’s event, truly, an All Stars experience. Still, some would indeed wonder, what are the thoughts of those outside the YFL community about this event?  To answer this, FALU was lucky enough to hear from 3 Non-YFL’s who shared about their own All Stars experience: April Buan (17), John Paul ‘JP’ Soriano (18), and Angela Dequito (18)

1.      Describe your All Stars experience in one word.

Angela: Unexpected

April:   Rejoicing

JP:        Fire

2.      How has the Youthfest deepened or opened up your relationship with the Lord?

Angela: It deepened my relationship with the Lord after I have witnessed the active participation of the audience. The response of the audience to the Lord left me with a stronger faith in Him.

April:     It reminded me that whatever happens and whatever we do, God loves us in ways that are greater than we could ever imagine.

JP:        To be hungry more for God’s love, wisdom & also to live like Christ.

 3.      As a young Catholic, what lessons did you learn from it?

Angela:  I learned that the Lord is indeed powerful and that He will always be with us every step of the way.  We just have to put our best foot forward and to always include Him in our endeavors.

April:   It helped me learn more about the Great Commission.

JP:         I learned that we can be like Christ, also to be hungry in knowing more about God, and to reach out to people who need our guidance, support and share the experiences that God gave us.

Jesus Christ shines brighter than any of the stars combined—on our lives and through us- and most of all, that God truly loves us for Him to send His son so that we may all experience the fullness of life—a life where all the stars shine for us, and the brightest of them all, is Jesus.
