Religious Tattoos Being Banned in Thailand

Thailand has deemed tattoos of Buddha, Ganesh and Jesus Christ as “culturally inappropriate” and has ordered a crackdown on foreign tourists getting them.

The Culture subcommittee on Safe and Creative Media has ordered provincial governors to ban the said trend, as it is unlikely that foreign tourists get them because of their expression of spiritual beliefs.

The Culture Minister claims that if those tattooed people are “badly behaved”, then it would damage the religions “through association”.

Religious tattoos are spreading across Thailand, especially in tourist destinations such as Khao San Road, Chatuchak Market and Chiang Mai.
