Despite the efforts of law officials, thousands of Catholics took part in a pilgrimage to mark the World Day of Prayer for China.
The throng concluded their annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Our Lady of Sheshan by assisting in a mass celebrated by Msgr. Xing Wenzhi, auxiliary bishop of Shanghai.
According to Asia News sources, some of the underground Catholics from Shanghai were unable to attend for security reasons in the days leading up to the feast after all the priests were removed from the Diocese by government officials.
During Mass, the Chinese faithful were encouraged to stay steadfast to their faith and urged to follow Mary’s example of prayerful patience for the realization of unity and communion with the Church.
